We are partnering with a leading construction business that delivers complex, high-value projects across the UK and Europe. With an established reputation in the data centre and energy sectors, the company has successfully completed a number of major data centre projects for a diverse client base across the UK.
Due to continued growth and increasing demand across the European market, they are expanding their Data Centres and Energy division and establishing a new office to support this growth. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at a pivotal stage of its development and play a key role in shaping its future success.
The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the technical delivery of Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) design across large-scale data centre and energy projects.
Working for a major subcontractor, you will oversee the design process from tender and pre-construction through to project delivery, ensuring designs are technically compliant, commercially viable, and fully aligned with programme requirements.
This is a client-facing role requiring close collaboration with consultants, subcontractors, and project delivery teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
The position offers remote working with travel to project and client locations as required.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and coordinate CSA design activities from tender stage through to construction delivery
- Provide technical expertise during bid and pre-construction phases, including design reviews, risk identification, and value engineering
- Manage multidisciplinary design teams to deliver high-quality, compliant design solutions
- Act as the primary interface between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams
- Support site and construction teams by providing design clarification, managing RFIs, and coordinating design changes
- Ensure designs are buildable, cost-effective, and delivered in line with programme and commercial objectives
- Drive design quality and ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements
- Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Design Manager role on large-scale projects
- Strong CSA technical background
- Essential: Data centre project experience
- Experience working with Tier 1 contractors or large subcontractors
- Ability to manage stakeholders in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
