The Company

We are currently collaborating with a premier design and build main contractor with an extensive project portfolio encompassing everything from residential refurbishment to large scale leisure and hotel schemes.

Established over 20 years ago, the company initially started as a fit-out contractor, as the company stands today, they are moving into the next level, with turnover increasing significantly in the last few years, are now looking at bringing the resources and resilience necessary to take on bigger clients.

Specialisms include residential build and refurbishment, commercial office, hotel, leisure and healthcare renovation and interior fit-out projects. In addition, they are experienced in the delivery of national rollout programmes for both public and private sector organisations.

Project examples:

• Hospitality - Fit out of unit shell to form prep area; kitchen, pot wash zone, bar and restaurant – 850+ sq ft

• Leisure – complete refurbishment of sports centre in Nottingham - including bespoke joinery, a full lighting system though-out, equipment rooms and flooring upgrade of the main gym area

• Commercial – Office redesign and reconfigure – 3 floors

• Residential – refurbishment of a super prime flat in West London - The scope of works comprised of a soft strip of the existing kitchen, bathrooms and floor finishes throughout

The Role

Our client is currently seeking to recruit a Head of Design to work in their design studio and take a Director level role.

You will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of the design process.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations and provide leadership for design managers and other design management resources assigned to projects
  • Work closely with the client team to facilitate a successful project experience and ensure a seamless journey
  • Develop and lead the project design team, coordinating internal and external resources to ensure effective allocation and clear, actionable project deliverables
  • Direct and support the deployment and ongoing operation of the design management system, ensuring it fulfils business objectives and complies with all statutory, legal, and contractual requirements
  • Manage the portfolio program for all projects, identifying and highlighting key opportunities and challenges
  • Establish the strategic framework for project design management delivery
  • You will act as the key liaison for client design matters, ensuring strong relationship management and consistent client engagement
  • Guide and support Managers to drive ongoing process improvements by leveraging best practices, integrating lessons learned, and advancing business enhancements, ultimately delivering exceptional value to clients
  • Support business development and work winning activities
  • Play a key role in shaping strategy, developing plans, and managing their implementation, ensuring that the annual business plan is delivered on schedule and within budget
  • You will spearhead design management efforts to deliver essential strategic outcomes and meet sub-function KPIs, with a strong focus on shaping and steering strategic development initiatives
  • Ensure that management systems are consistently applied throughout the project lifecycle and that all roles and responsibilities are properly maintained
  • Facilitate and authorize consultant appointments for all work streams as stipulated by contractual requirements
  • Accountable for leading teams to achieve key outcomes and for contributing to the strategic enhancement of design management systems
