Design Manager

The Company
We are currently collaborating with an award winning regional Main Contractor based in Essex. Established over 30 years ago the company delivers a diverse range of projects across London and the Southeast.
They partner with local authorities, housing associations and private clients across all sectors under both traditional and design & build arrangements, their sectors include commercial, education, healthcare, heritage and residential.
With a turnover exceeding £100 million, the company typically undertakes projects valuing between £1 million and £20 million.

The Role
We are currently looking for a competent Design Manager to work on a £25+ million new build residential scheme in South London consisting of an RC Frame 9 storey building containing 75 units.
The project will be 2 stages, and the ideal candidate will have previous PCSA experience.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure that the Company Health and Safety policy and the company’s Management System is complied with at all times, putting safety above all other considerations.
- Contribute to the management and development of relationships with customers and project stakeholders to promote the Company’s good reputation.
- Support the work winning team by providing advice on potential errors, omissions, and value engineering opportunities in Employer’s Requirements, and liaison with potential design consultants to agree scopes of service/fees.
- Take part in the tender handover process to gain a full understanding of the submitted tender and requirements of the contract.
- Liaise with the commercial team to ensure designer appointment documents are robust and concluded promptly.
- Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders regularly and involve parties as necessary to ensure prompt and effective resolution of issues to facilitate successful project completion.
- Closely manage the design team to ensure that designs are developed which comply with contract, statutory and building warranty requirements, in a cost effective manner and to comply with project programme requirements
- Escalate concerns regarding designer performance failures to senior management to agree appropriate action plan and implement as required
- Support the project team to recover full entitlement in respect of customer changes and extensions of time.
